DOULA LUANA

BIRTHING WITH AUTONOMY,

RESPECT AND EMPATHY

WHAT CAN A DOULA DO FOR YOU

If you have just stepped into the world of pregnancy and childbirth, you may not know who the professionals involved are and what each one does. Here you will understand better.

The role of a doula is to help you prepare for the moment of delivery, especially about pain management, in a non-medicated way. Positions, massages, compressions, baths, breathing techniques - all this is part of the technical and practical knowledge that the doula shares with you, so you get to know your body better and have more autonomy.

Pain is likely to be present at your birth, but it doesn't have to cause suffering, let alone be the centerpiece of this momentous occasion. When giving birth, you can experience involvement and emotion and, most importantly, discover what your body is capable of.

The doula also guides you in making informed decisions about how you want to give birth. Don't worry! Your relationship with this professional is judgment-free. She will not speak or define anything for you, nor will she offer unsolicited opinions and advice.

On the contrary, the doula will know and respect your choices in depth (if you agree to take anesthesia, induction techniques, if you like physical contact, etc.), advocating for them at the time of delivery.

These make communication with the medical team much easier so you can focus on what really matters: giving birth.

Despite preparing the environment (lighting, music) and being there with you, the doula will not "perform" the delivery. Who assists you in this sense is an obstetrician, an obstetric nurse, or a midwife. They will focus on the baby's arrival, and the doula will focus on you.

If you have a partner expecting this child with you, that person is involved and welcomed throughout the process. The doula will be there for every moment of your birth, fully attentive to your needs and determined to make your experience the best it can be.

Frequent Questions

Did you have any question? Take a look at what (almost) everyone wants to know :)

  • I live in Kitchener, Canada. I work in person here and in nearby cities, such as Cambridge, Waterloo, Guelph, Elmira...

    But, if you are in Brazil or prefer an online service, I also offer some distance services.

    The birth preparation course and breastfeeding support are included in this list. If you want to know more, click here and write to me!

  • The doula helps you in your preparation for childbirth, in addition to accompanying you in this important moment. By hiring this professional, you get in touch with proven pain management techniques (non-drug) and have a company totally focused on you, which will know your choices and preferences in-depth and will advocate for them with the medical team at the time of your childbirth.

  • Around 12 weeks of pregnancy it is already in effect. That way, I can work on pregnancy issues with you during consultations and calmly prepare you for the moment of delivery. But if your pregnancy is already more advanced, no problem!

    Look for me as soon as you can, and we'll check if I'll be available when you need me.

  • The flow varies for each service. Take a look:

    Course The birth is yours: the first step is to complete your pre-registration by clicking here. Classes are in groups with limited places, so it's important that you send me this form (quick to fill out!) to get on the waiting list and receive all the information firsthand as soon as I open the next class. If you want to ask any questions before that, you can send me a message, and we'll talk :)

    Doula in childbirth: the first step is to click here and schedule a chat for us to get to know each other. I don't charge for this consultation. It's just to see if we get along. In it, you tell me what you're looking for, and I'll explain how the service works, what I can do for you, in addition to answering your questions. In the end, I'll give you a contract for you to review calmly and decide if you want me as your doula (I hope it works!).

    Breastfeeding Support: Just contact me here to schedule an appointment. Don't worry if you can only book on the weekend or during non-business hours because my schedule is flexible. You tell me how you would like me to help you, and I prepare the consultation according to your needs. Afterward, we spent about two hours together (online or in-person) talking about everything you want to know from breastfeeding to weaning.

  • Here on the site, I tell you a little about myself, what I believe in and what are the values that I apply in all my services. If you also believe that the gestating person:

    Must have autonomy at the time of delivery;

    She needs to be respected in her wishes and preferences;

    You have the right to quality information, based on scientific evidence;

    It deserves midwifery with a lot of affection and acceptance;

    That means we have a lot in common! But, look, I know that choosing a doula to accompany you is a delicate decision, after all, this will be an unforgettable moment in your life.

    I want you to feel completely secure, so you can schedule a free chat just to see if we are a good match. I will gladly serve you! Just write me here, and we'll work out the details.

  • I will provide a whatsapp number for you to send me your questions during the period in which I am attending to you. Thus, our contact is closer and, as soon as I can, I will answer you with everything! In case of urgency, you can also call me.

  • Of course! It's just important for you to know that, here in Canada, cesarean sections are only performed if the obstetrician agrees that there is a reason to do so. You can opt for natural childbirth (without any type of intervention, such as medication, analgesia, induction, etc.) or for normal childbirth (which is also a vaginal birth, but here you agree with some level of intervention). As much as we plan, each birth is unique. But one thing is for sure: no matter what happens or what choices you make, I will be there to support you!

  • “What if I want to give birth at my house?” “What if I don’t want to deliver in the hospital?” No problem. I am on notice two weeks before and two weeks after your due date. When the time comes, I'll be with you wherever you want.

  • Of course! I would love to accompany you on this journey. If you want to take the course "The Birth is Yours", with the Birth Doula and breastfeeding support, you will have access to special conditions. Just write me here and we can talk about it.

  • For some of the services, I chose to work with a price range. This means that there is a minimum and a maximum value for that service, and you are the one who says how much you can pay within that range, according to your possibilities. Don't worry, I won't question your choice or ask for any kind of proof.

  • You can make a bank transfer or pay by credit card. Oh! I also accept cash if the service is in person.

  • Damn :(

    But no problem, no. Just write me here, and I'll clear your doubt.

Testimonial

  • Jéssica, Fabrício e Luigi (in the belly) | São Paulo, Brazil

    From "The Birth is Yours"

    “Luana's service was great from beginning to end, but a differentiator was definitely the way of presentation. It didn't hit that insecurity of being taking an online course. On the contrary, I felt I was gaining from the number of cool resources she used!

    The course is very interactive; the images, the illustrations, and the way she conducted it made everything lighter and more fun. Fabrício also liked it a lot! He felt part, connected, and one of these days he was even teaching some of the things we learned in the course to my parents.

    We didn't even see the classes go by, they were so fun. It was really a really nice experience!”

  • Marina, Fábio e Kai (in the belly) | Ontario, Canada

    From "The Birth is Yours"

    “The Birth is Yours" course by Lu was very special! It brought us more security and confidence to be able to make our choices during the end of pregnancy, childbirth, and the first days with our baby.

    We had access to all information in an accurate and up-to-date way. Lu was ready to be available even outside the course and answered questions that arose over time. Always very attentive, she passed us and continues to pass, a lot of tranquility and peace in all stages of our new journey!”
